A Sunny resort town on the black sea coast of the Krasnodar territory of Russia, located around a vast Bay protected by mountains. Gelendzhik airport is one of the" youngest " airports in Russia. It was officially opened on may 29, 2010.
In 2004. Gelendzhik airport was closed for reconstruction, during which a new runway was built with a length of 3,100 m and a width of 45 m. and a temporary airport complex with a total area of 1872.2 m2. The first technical landing and take-off of the aircraft on the new runway was performed on December 25, 2008. (Yak-42 of Kuban Airlines).
Since 2010, the airport has hosted a hydroaviasalon, an international exhibition and scientific conference on hydroavianavigation every 2 years.
In 2012, the airport provided emergency aviation services to deal with the consequences of flooding, and in 2015-to extinguish forest fires.
In 2014, Gelendzhik airport was named the best regional airport in the country based on the results of online voting for the Russian air gate award.
