The Rutan Model 61 Long-EZ is a tandem 2-seater homebuilt aircraft designed by Burt Rutan's Rutan Aircraft Factory.

The Long-EZ has a canard layout, with a delta wing and wingtip rudders, and a pusher engine and propelleor. The tricycle landing gear has fixed main wheels with streamlined spats, and a retractable nosewheel. Its predecessor was the VariEze, plans of which were first available to homebuilders in 1976. The prototype, N79RA,of the Long-EZ first flew on June 12, 1979. The Long-EZ was a plans-only kitplane, and several variants of the basic design have surfaced over the years.

The Long-EZ was modern, high performance, custom built long range aircraft featuring the latest advances in aerodynamics and structure to provide good utility, economy, comfort, simplicity and flight safety. The aircraft uses one of two proven certified aircraft engines, the continental O-200 (100 hp) and the Lycoming O-235 (115 hp.) It has an alternator powered electrical system and can be equipped with an electric engine starter. lt’s cockpit layout is designed to compliment pilot work load with throttle, mixture, carb heat, pitch trim and landing controls on the left side console and a side stick controller on the right console. Seating provides correct armrest, lumbar, thigh and headrest support allowing “recliner chair‘ comfort not found in conventional aircraft seats. This allows long, fatigue free flights. The inboard portion of the large wing strakes are used as baggage areas accessible from the front and rear cockpit.

This renditon features:

- Highly detailed internal and external visual models
- 8K high resolution textures
- 4 liveries with customizable registration markings
- Custom sound package (using legacy sound pipeline - WWise sounds not supported at launch)
- Native Microsoft Flight Simulator flight model *

* - at the moment of the initial release, MSFS does not properly support canard planes - the plane may exhibit a behavior that may differ from the real aircraft in extereme conditions

– Fixed Garmin Aera “no buttons” interaction
– Improved roll rate
– Added landing light
– Changed Virtual Cockpit LOD min size to 1
– Preliminary implementation of stick collision for Virtual Reality (may not work correctly, we are having all sorts of problems with VR in SU7, so we cannot grant full compatibility.)
– Fixed Garmin Aera display (broken after SU6)
– Canopy variable now linked to aircraft variable (should work fine in multiplayer) – New transponder code (supports all modes and IDENT)
– COM Radio volume can now be changed
– Fixed bug preventing autopilot GPS NAV mode
– Improvements to engine performance realism (aircarft was overpowered) – Improvements to spoiler dynamics (effectiveness was excessive)
– Minor tweaks to drag coefficient
– Further tweaks to readability for some gauges
– Revised control surface animations
– Redone ADI animation to fix minor inaccuracies, also increased movement by 5°
– Fixed minor animation bug in canard control surfaces hinges
– Improved rendering of propeller and its animations
– Improved control surfaces animations
– Improved handling (pitch control) – NOTE it is now slightly more difficult to “stall” the canard surfaces – Minor tweaks to flight dynamics
– Slighly relaxed conditions for speedbrake blowback
– Included additional liveries courtesy of Sebastien Rocque
– Revised CoG limitations
– Fixed bug preventing autopilot to work with certain liveries
– Improved mouse drag interaction on some switches
– Added missing component behavior to COM1 SWAP button – Fixed Aircraft Description
– Fixed mistake in tooltip ID for attitude calibration knob – Fixed duplicate GUID in view system
– Note: starting from this version, version numbering is changed to comply with Microsoft three-digit method, hence 1.1.9 (equivalent to 1.19 in the previou numbering system)
– Package Recompiled for Sim Update V
– Major code reorganization and optimization
– Basic implementation of Sim Update V cockpit interaction model – Increased readability of some gauge needles
– Replaced cockpit flood light for better night visibility
– Added tire contact special effects
– Added LODs to external model for better performance
– Redone aircraft dynamics for increased stability (aircraft should now be easier to control and less prone to departures in severe weather)
– Tweaked wheels dynamics while on the ground (lateral control during takeoff run should now be easier)
– Added basic autopilot with following functionalities:
– Altitude selection and altitude hold (without baro setting) – Wing leveller
– Heading hold
– GPS Navigation
– Redone Mouse Areas assignation with “Behavior” method, restoring drag functionality for several controls – Revised Mouse Areas zones for more accurate control and fewer conflicts.
– Updated localization file for World Update IV
– Fixed Weather Occlusion in v1.15 – Fixed Minor Texture glitch in v1.15
– Added Cockpit Collision model for Virtual Reality
– Further improvements to canopy scatches
– Fixed bug preventing pilot figures to show in the green-checker livery
– Added red and silver livery courtesy of Christoph Tantow
– Added checklists courtesy courtesy of Lucas Aulen aka Laulenture
– Changed mapping of airspeed needle for better gauge readability
– Remapped fuel selector color to avoid issues with mouse drag problems introduced in MSFS
– Added sunglasses to pilot figures
– Reintroduced canopy scatches (hopefully done much better this time) – Changed model name to comply with Microsoft convention
– Increased engine volume when in virtual cockpit
– Minor tweaks to sound spatialization
